Spike up your possibilities to land the perfect job with LinkedIN

In today's economy it is extremely hard to search for and even harder to find a job/career. The major reason for this lack of work is because there are lots of people out there looking for work and not enough places to work or looking for new hires. After last Thursday night class I learn that one way to greatly increase your chances of landing the perfect job/career is to have a 'kick ass LInkedIn profile"  There are three main ways to have a "kick ass profile":

  • Have a great headline with key words that highlights what you do and what you are interested in doing this is the most important headline because it is the first thing that people see in your profile
  • Your profile should be client focused. Pretend you are the one looking for somebody, what would you look for? Do not put things like: Owner, CEO, etc. Because people are not looking to fill those positions
  • Include your past experiences in your profile; at least your last three jobs because it may spark additional interest that will benefit you
  • Throughout your profile make sure you have key words that are specific to where you want to go and what you are good at
Having a "kick ass" LinkedIn profile will not guarantee a job but it will increase your odds tremendously. So, the next thing you should do is get on LinkedIn and look at your profile, put yourself in the shoes of a hiring manager and say: would I hire myself? If you are not confident in your profile then spend time and update it to be "kick ass" quality

Third Day of Social Media Class

As we get more in depth in the social media class I have learned a few other things about social media. Here I was thinking I was technologically savy and I could get around through most of the new advances but I have learned that there is much to learn about be socially active. Some of the things I have done include:

  • Updated my LinkedIn profile to be more proffesional than what I have had it before; this I believe led to be reached by a recruter wanting to talk to me about a possible job
  • I have created a company page and am learning to manage a page of my own, this of course takes time but it will give me useful data. Check out the page at: www.facebook.com/Beerfanatics
  • I have begun to get a YouTube channel together, I have an idea for my first video which will compliment my FB page.
Becoming more socially active is not difficult but it is time consuming. Another thing that I am working on is how to created my social media plan because I want to be in control of what people see when they search for me thus I need to work on it.

Until next class

Sincerely,

Eduardo

Gobbler Hobbler 10K Run - Oswego Illinois

Need a reason to run prior to the big Thanksgiving feasts? How about trying to level the field between calories intake vs burn. This coming weekend is the Gobbler Hobbler 10K run in the small town of Oswego, IL. come out and support the local park district while getting healthier doing so. The Gobbler Hobbler is a great family event in which all can par take, besides the 10K there is also a Mash Potato mile for the little ones.  A few more reasons to run this weekend are:

  • The average adult consumes about 4500 calories on Thanksgiving Day, wow, that is a lot of calories so a good run that will burn about 700 can reduce that by a bit.
  • Running relieves stress; what better way to relief some stress from all the planning that Thanksgiving and the holidays take. Come out this weekend and relief some at the Gobbler Hobbler 10K.
  • Feeling a bit depressed lately? Running will sure take care of that. You can find the benefits within the first mile run, trust me, I know.
Those are much more benefits to running but those three on top are just a few to get you going. So, come on out to Oswego's Fox Chase Elementary for the run and i'll see you at the finish line!!!www.oswegolandparkdistrict.org/Events/Gobbler-Hobbler.htm
